Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the Global Digital CoE Senior IT Manager in Europe, the IT Business Analyst will be co-located with the Digital CoE IT NA team in the Pittsburgh Corporate headquarters.    As a member of the team which provides functional expertise in the CPU and FOCUS “Global Satellites” applications, the incumbent will work with business unit IT analysts and end users across PPG's businesses in  the Americas in determining applications solutions, consulting on business requirements, creation of functional designs, delivery of projects, and support for implemented functionality. The position will require some travel (<25%) including potential international travel.   Business IT Business Analysts are business, function, or process specialists and can be technology generalists or specialists.  They possess knowledge of practices, policies, and procedures in their area, and their varied responsibilities include moderately complex problem solving, independent analysis, and decision-making.  Individuals at the IT Business Analyst I or II level can assist with or take responsibility for providing support to a specific business or function, leveraging prior experience.  They conduct and analyze business and information technology processes and prepare essential groundwork for business process and application changes.   The IT Business Analyst networks with other PPG analysts to understand how IT solutions are deployed in other areas to solve business problems.  They participate in requirements gathering interviews, workshops, and/or existing systems documentation or procedures and use prototyping, where possible, to solidify client requirements, and act as a liaison between IT and the business or function.   Technical The IT Business Analyst participates in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of business solutions.  The analyst identifies customer requirements, develops test schedules, reviews testing plans, and tracks and documents the development and results of these plans.  They uncover client requirements via industry standard analysis techniques such as data flow modeling and workflow analysis, and can develop or maintain alternative technical solutions using various tools.    The IT Business Analyst alerts project managers to potential risks and issues of importance.  They document the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates or analysis tools, and they demonstrate an understanding of technologies role in process improvement.  The analyst supports project teams for ensuring that solutions delivered to customers adhere to PPG’s methodology and architectural standards, including delivery of system & user documentation.  They demonstrate analytical and conceptual skills.   Interpersonal The IT Business Analyst develops an understanding of the business area served, establishing effective working relationships with IT personnel and the customer base.  The analyst participates in discussions with vendors, consultants or contractors, and professional organizations to gain knowledge of software and systems.    A successful IT Business Analyst will demonstrate openness, flexibility and the ability to learn quickly.  They will demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts in terms understandable to the business.  They must possess strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.  They must have a strong teamwork orientation and interpersonal skills, and must produce agreed-upon results without close supervision.   To be successful in this role, the IT Business Analyst is responsible for the following: 

  • Interact with the Businesses and the Key users in the Americas for CPU & FOCUS applications primarily
  • Understand the Business needs and propose / design innovative solutions
  • Work closely with Business Analysts from the Core Systems (Oracle R12 / SAP / Tandem / …) to ensure the solution takes into account all aspects of “managing information” at the right place
  • Contribute to estimate feasibility, workload and cost of solutions; work to obtain funding
  • Contribute to definition of solutions and take responsibility for their implementation
  • Primary support contact in Americas for CPU & FOCUS applications
  • Is the focus point for Global Satellites during Americas hours
  • Part of 3rd level support
  • Liaise directly with developers for Critical/Urgent issues 





Minimum Required Qualifications 

  • A 4 yearDegree in IT, Business or equivalent
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience in IT, business process, or consulting roles 


  • MBA or desire to obtain would be advantageous
  • Finance or Supply Chain application knowledge 


  • Ability to rapidly assimilate assigned business area's products and processes
  • Knowledge and experience in gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes
  • Understanding of how IT affects an organization and ability to link it to redesigned business processes
  • Good technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
  • Track record of participation on IT project teams
  • Must have a strong systems and process orientation
  • Must be able to work without close supervision
